Commercial perimeter fencing is specified for deterrence, delay, and liability control. Our commercial construction differs from residential in five measurable ways. Section is heavier: pickets and rails are upsized to resist prying, impact, and vehicle contact. Every connection is fully welded rather than fastened, eliminating the mechanical joints that are the standard attack point on panel systems. Footings are increased in both depth and volume beyond the forty-two-inch frost-line minimum, sized to wind load, fence height, and impact exposure. Picket top treatments can be specified as anti-climb extended, pointed, or flared where the security assessment calls for it. And infrastructure is integrated during fabrication: conduit paths, camera and lighting mounts, sensor mounting points, and grounding are built in rather than strapped on afterward.

Typical installations include utility and substation perimeters, municipal facilities and public works yards, medical and educational campuses, self-storage and equipment yards, multi-family developments, industrial sites, and high-value private estates where the security requirement is real but the appearance still has to be architectural rather than institutional.

Cantilever, Slide and Swing Configurations

Gate configuration follows the site. Cantilever gates carry the leaf on an overhead track with no ground track to fill with ice, slush, or debris, which makes them the most reliable configuration for Minnesota commercial service entrances and the one we specify most often at wide openings. Roller slide gates suit level runs with adequate side room. Swing gates single or bi-parting suit narrower openings with clear arc and are commonly paired with a pedestrian gate in the same elevation. Every leaf is fabricated on a welded structural frame sized to the span, with hardware rated well beyond actual leaf weight so the duty cycle does not consume the bearing life in the first two years.

Operators, Access Control and Fail-Safe Behavior

Automation is engineered to the leaf, not selected from a price tier. We size operators to gate weight, opening width, and expected cycles per day, and we specify continuous-duty units where traffic volume warrants. Safety hardware is non-negotiable: reversing edges, photo eyes, and vehicle detection loops so the gate cannot close on a vehicle or a pedestrian. Access control is matched to how the site actually operates keypad, proximity and card reader, telephone entry, transmitter, or integration into an existing building management or credentialing system. Fail-safe versus fail-secure behavior in a power loss is confirmed in writing during submittals, along with emergency services access, because both are inspection items and neither is a field decision.

Crash-Rated and Impact-Resistant Designs

Where the threat assessment includes vehicle impact, we fabricate reinforced and impact-resistant gate and barrier assemblies with heavy structural frames, deep reinforced foundations, and integrated bollard lines. Crash-rated applications are engineered to the rating specified by the security consultant or agency and coordinated with the foundation design, since impact resistance is delivered by the foundation and anchorage system as much as by the visible steel. We work from the specifying engineer’s requirements rather than substituting our own assumptions.

Code-Compliant Roof Access Ladders and Safety Cages

Fixed roof access ladders are regulated fall-protection equipment and they are cited on inspection when they are wrong. We fabricate and install fixed ladders, safety cages, walk-through and side-step roof landing extensions, and ships ladders for mechanical mezzanines and equipment platforms. Fabrication addresses rung diameter and spacing, consistent side-rail dimension, standoff clearance behind the rungs, the extension of side rails above the landing surface for a safe transition at the roof edge, cage or fall-arrest system requirements based on climb height, and anchorage into the actual substrate masonry, structural steel, or precast rather than into whatever is convenient. Existing ladders that fail inspection can be retrofitted or replaced, and we will assess a non-compliant installation on site before you commit to a scope.

Bollards, Equipment Screens and Site Steel

The same shop that builds your fence line can deliver the rest of the site steel as one package: protective bollards at dock doors, storefronts, and utility equipment; rooftop and grade-level mechanical screening; dumpster and generator enclosures; handrails and guards at loading docks, ramps, and stairs; and custom brackets, frames, and platforms fabricated to drawing. Consolidating this scope with a single fabricator removes the coordination gap where finishes, mounting heights, and responsibility usually get lost between trades.

Procurement, Submittals and Schedule

We work the way commercial projects are actually run. We bid from drawings and specifications and flag discrepancies before award rather than through a change order later. We produce shop drawings for review and approval prior to fabrication. We provide material, coating, and hardware submittals, including the galvanized and powder-coat system data. We coordinate installation sequencing with site work, concrete, and electrical so that footings, conduit, and operator power are ready when our crew mobilizes. And we deliver a punch walk with the responsible manager, not a phone call. Every commercial assembly gets the same acid wash, zinc-rich galvanized coating, and baked-on architectural powder coat as our residential work, because a rusting perimeter is a facility-condition problem long before it is a security problem.
